I finally picked up a map... you really do live in the middle of a desert. As I suppose you've told me before: it looks like the country is surrounded by mountains in Afganistan, Iran, and Uzbeckistan (bummer). How about the Amu Darya and Zarafshon rivers that look like they converge around Turkmenabat - what are those like?
